Linebacker Gerald McGrath is the first of two fourth-round picks for Tennessee. The selection provides the Titans with additional depth at linebacker, filling another one of their needs.
McGrath played middle linebacker at Southern Miss but at 231 pounds, coupled with his quickness, he's probably better suited as a weakside linebacker, where he would back up Keith Bulluck. Could he possibly be an eventual replacement for him?
I like what I see about McGrath though it's hard for me to use his name and Bulluck's together.
Here's a portion of his scouting report from the NFL/NFLDraftScout.com:
Good instincts. ... Flows to the action quickly and puts himself in position to make a play. ... Reads the quarterback's eyes in coverage. ... Recognizes the screen and draw and isn't fooled often. ... Good speed to the flanks. .. Reliable open-field tackler who can break down in space and make the secure stop. ... Good agility to slip past blockers. ... Good balance to handle working through trash. ... Flashes some aggression taking on blocks...
I imagine McGrath will compete with Stanford Keglar and Colin Allred and be used primarily on special teams.
Titans fans, how do you like this selection?
