Michael Griffin named to Bloguin All-Pro team

Written by Andrew Strickert on .

Photo by Andrew Strickert for Total TitansIt's been a much better season for Titans safety Michael Griffin than it was a year ago and people have been noticing. Griffin was selected to Bloguin's inaugural All-Pro team, which was announced this morning.

Bloguin is a network of citizen sports writers, as my good friend and colleague Anthony Brown says, who share a passion for blogging about the world of sports and their favorite teams. Griffin's selection indicates he is regarded as the best free safety in the league by these passionate bloggers.

The selection process was not a popularity contest. It was highly competitive and many top stars did not receive votes.

I wrote the comment for Griffin's selection:
"Has rebounded tremendously from a poor sophomore season and is showing once more the talent which made him a first-round draft pick."

Straight invisible homey: The vanishing act of Randy Moss

Written by Drexel Perry on .

Let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we?

It was the beginning of November and the talented but seemingly troubled Randy Moss had just worn out his welcome in Minnesota as he was surprisingly released. In a matter of a few days, the speculation of Moss coming to the city of Nashville became a reality, as the Titans claimed the future Hall of Fame WR off the waiver wire.

Fast-forwarding to the present, nearly two months and a measly five catches later, one of the biggest stories surrounding the Titans' struggles has been the non-impact of Randy Moss, who after being ignored when he was on the playing field, has been relegated to the sidelines since Kenny Britt's return from his hamstring injury.

Jeff Fisher will have some splainin to do

Written by Andrew Strickert on .

Jeff Fisher has coached the Titans to losses in seven of the last eight games.

When Bud Adams summons Jeff Fisher to Houston after the end of the season, he'll probably want to know some things. Little things. Like why the team, which he pays Fisher to coach, lost eight of its last nine games. And why his team hasn't won a postseason game in seven years. And why the team with the best record in the league two years ago hasn't done diddly squat since then.

I'm sure Fisher's excuses will be well rehearsed. He's good at splainin things.

I'm not sure if Bud will buy the goods Fisher will be trying to sell him. I hope not.

David Climer has climbed on the 'Get Rid of Fisher and Young' bandwagon and his latest column is being regurgitated across the internet. Sites that specialize in bringing other people's work to your attention have linked to Climer's article.

Titans seal losing campaign with 34-14 loss to Chiefs

Written by Drexel Perry on .

Thanks to an uninspiring first-half performance, the Tennessee Titans clinched a losing season with their 34-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The combination of a poor defensive effort and a struggling offense paved the way for the Titans' 31-7 halftime-deficit.

On the afternoon, the Chiefs had little trouble dominating on the offensive side of the football, as indicated by QB Matt Cassel passing for 314 yards and KC's rushing attack doing their part with 152 on the ground.

Additional thoughts on today's Titans' loss, after the break.

Titans-Chiefs inactives, gameday thread

Written by Tom Gower on .

Happy holiday, merry Christmas, and all that jazz to you all, and I hope you're enjoying the holiday season.  The inactives are trickling out for today's game, and includes the following names:

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
LB Charlie Anderson, FB Mike Cox, S Reshard Langford, WR Quentin Lawrence, C Rudy Niswanger, QB Tyler Palko (#3 QB), DT Anthony Toribio, S Donald Washington

TENNESSEE TITANS
DE Hall Davis, S Vinny Fuller, WR Lavelle Hawkins, DT Jovan Haye, S Robert Johnson, T/G Troy Kropog, QB Rusty Smith (#3 QB), LB David Thornton

Donald Washington was listed as out for the Chiefs on the injury report, and all other players were probable.  Haye was not listed on the injury report for the Titans, and as Jim Wyatt notes, that means the Titans kept Marques Douglas and Malcolm Sheppard over Jovan; I wouldn't read too much into this, as it's more time to evaluate them.  Bo Scaife is also active.  I haven't seen any reports on starters on way or the other, so I presume Collins will be starting and Bo may be as well.  That said, Stevens has actually been in the starting lineup plenty this season.

Tennessee Titans - Kansas City Chiefs preview

Written by Andrew Strickert on .

The Tennessee Titans still have a shot at the playoffs, though they need help. First things first, though -- never mind what the Colts and Jags do this weekend -- the Titans need to take care of their own business.

Standing in their way is a good Chiefs team, one that's leading it's division and trying to clinch a playoff berth. The Titans will be facing a team that's motivated and focused.

Overview: Just call it Patriots West. General Manager Scott Pioli came to Kansas City from the New England organization and seems determined to rebuild the Chiefs in that mold. Former Patriots coordinators Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel now hold the same positions with the Chiefs under head coach Todd Haley. QB Matt Cassell, formerly Tom Brady's backup, is now the main man in Kansas City.
