Cam Newton: Future Tennessee Titan?

Written by Drexel Perry on .

Due to the team's six-game slide, for all intent and purposes, the 2010 season is over for the Tennessee Titans.

Instead of analyzing potential playoff scenarios and matchups, we've been relegated to focusing on what went wrong and how the franchise is going to pick up the pieces in order to avoid the same fate next season.

Naturally, we'll get started a little earlier than usual in preparation for what the Titans will/should be looking for come next April's NFL Draft.

Andrew already got the ball rolling a bit with his take on the Titans' possibly finishing 5-11 and landing a top-ten pick in the 2011, so I'll continue down the same path with my first foray into the discussion of potential fits for the team with their first-round selection.

Next up....I'll take a look at the possibility of Heisman Trophy winning QB Cam Newton ending up with the Tennessee Titans.

It's time for the younger Titans to get more experience

Damian Williams is one of several young Titans who needs to get more playing time.
In his press conference Friday afternoon, when asked about giving more inexperienced players more playing time during the last three games of the season, Jeff Fisher replied, "there is a chance we may play some younger players."

I hope we see that. The season is going down the toilet and we might as well let the backups get some experience.

If Fisher follows through with his hint of change, here are some players I'd like to see get more playing time.

Damian Williams -- Justin Gage and Nate Washington have been getting too much work, with not enough results, at Williams' expense. Williams, the Titans' second overall pick in the 2010 draft, missed most of training camp and the associated playing time in preseason games. I'd like to see him progress into an expanded role next year and wouldn't it be helpful to give him some experience now? One thing that might hinder more playing time for Williams is Fisher's claim, also in Friday's presser, that the Titans may utilize Randy Moss with Kenny Britt on the field at the same time.

Titans fall to the Colts 30-28

Written by Drexel Perry on .

Unfortunately for the Tennessee Titans, their spirited rally was too little, too late.

Facing an early 21-0 deficit, the Titans' comeback bid fell short as they suffered their sixth consecutive defeat in last night's 30-28 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Additional thoughts on yet another Titans' loss...after the jump.

Titans-Colts inactives, gameday thread

Written by Tom Gower on .

The list of inactives is out for tonight's game between the Colts and the Titans, and includes the following names:

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
RB Joseph Addai, WR Austin Collie, RB Mike Hart, CB Kelvin Hayden, DT Ricardo Mathews, G Jacques McClendon, LB Clint Session, G Jaimie Thomas

TENNESSEE TITANS
DE Dave Ball, WR Lavelle Hawkins, S Robert Johnson, T/G Troy Kropog, DT Sen'Derrick Marks, CB Ryan Mouton, QB Rusty Smith (#3 QB), LB David Thornton

A couple starting changes for the Colts.  With Session out, Kavell Conner starts at weakside linebacker.  Hayden is out, as is Jerraud Powers, so Jacob Lacey and Justin Tryon are your starting corners.  Donald Brown also starts at running back, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some of newly familiar face Dominic Rhodes, re-signed this week.  The only change at starters for the Titans is Jacob Ford in for Dave Ball at defensive end.  Thankfully the Colts have struggled to run the ball this year, so Ford's weakness there shouldn't be a big issue.

Feel free to leave your comments here, or follow me on Twitter where I'll be chiming in intermittently.

18 to 88 answers questions from Total Titans

Thanks again to Nate Dunlevy of the great Colts blog 18 to 88 for participating in this week's Q&A session.  Nate is probably my favorite opposing blogger to do a Q&A with because he writes with great insight and is willing to be objective in writing about his favorite team's strengths and weaknesses.  I don't always agree with him, but I hope you find his answers as enjoyable as I did.

Total Titans: Lots of interceptions. Lots of interceptions returned for touchdowns. What's going on with Peyton Manning, and is he still a laser rocket armed destroyer of secondaries or now a normal human quarterback?

Tennessee Titans - Indianapolis Colts preview

Written by Andrew Strickert on .

Two weeks ago, in previewing the Titans-Texans game, I wrote it should be called a "Misery Loves Company" game. At the time, Tennessee had lost three games in a row and Houston had a four-game losing streak. Well, there was nothing like a weak Titans team to cure what ailed the Texans.

Time now for the same song, second verse.

In another "Misery Loves Company" game, the Indianapolis Colts are hoping the Titans are just what the doctor ordered to get them feeling well again. The Colts have lost three games in a row, and four of their last five, yet are only one game out of the division lead. The Titans, as we know, remain mired in what is now a five-game slump, going on nine.

Which of these teams will still be in misery following Thursday night's prime-time showdown? More thoughts on that, after the jump.

Chuck Cecil: On the hot seat?

Written by Drexel Perry on .

Thanks to a five-game losing streak that's caused the season of the 2010 Tennessee Titans to tailspin out of control, the job security of long-time head coach Jeff Fisher has come into question.

Due to the team's losing ways, there's been speculation that the NFL's longest-tenured head coach may be out once the season ends.

While the vast majority of the attention has been focused on Jeff Fisher's cloudy future beyond 2010, there's another Titans' coach who should also be on the hot seat due to the continued struggles of his unit.

His name, you ask? Defensive Coordinator Chuck Cecil.
