Titans-Jaguars question and answer exchange

Written by Andrew Strickert on .

Our guest for this week's question and answer exchange will be Charlie Bernstein. I've known Charlie for five years and during that time he has held a variety of positions covering the Jacksonville Jaguars. Among other things, Charlie is currently with Jag Nation, has a radio show in St. Augustine, Florida, and is a member of the Pro Football Writers of America.

Folks, ask your questions here about the Jags and this week's game and I'll pass them along to Charlie.

Time to step up, Jared Cook

Written by Drexel Perry on .

One of the few (perhaps only is a better word) positives that came from Sunday's 20-0 shutout loss to the Texans was the emergence of Jared Cook in the passing game. Due to a stinger that caused Bo Scaife to leave the contest, Cook stepped up in his place with a career-high 4 catches for 40 yards.

Long on potential but unfortunately short on production at this point in his career, here's to hoping the talented Cook will continue to become a consistent part of the Titans' passing attack moving forward.

Jeff Fisher certainly made some changes

Javon Ringer is the Titans new #1 back.
Texans 20, Titans 0.  It has been five years since I've seen such a lack of effort from the Titans. The last time the Titans played such uninspired football was the 2005 season finale in Jacksonville, a 40-13 drubbing. After that game, Jeff Fisher promised changes would be made.

Funny, he promised the same thing just a week ago.

So, what changes did Fisher make last week? Here are the changes I saw yesterday.

Rusty Smith at QB for Vince Young.

Javon Ringer became the Titans' #1 back, gaining 27 yards rushing.

Chris Johnson went from a 100-yard per game rusher to a guy who only gained 5 yards.

The Titans' offense gained 162 yards. Total. Against the worst defense in the league.

The o-line unveiled a new blocking scheme. Instead of knocking the other team around, they tried to just get in their opponent's way. Without much success. More changes I saw, after the jump.

Titans shut out by Texans 20-0

Written by Drexel Perry on .

For the fourth consecutive game, the Titans experienced the bitter taste of defeat.

Thanks to a putrid offensive performance, the Tennessee Titans were shut out by the Houston Texans 20-0. Rusty Smith was overwhelmed in his first NFL start, throwing three interceptions while only leading the offense to 162 yards on the entire afternoon. Chris Johnson's certainly seen better days, as he was held to a measly 5 yards on 7 carries.

Additional thoughts on today's Titans' loss...after the jump.

Titans-Texans inactives, gameday thread

Written by Tom Gower on .

The list of inactives is out for today's game, and includes the following names:

HOUSTON TEXANS
LB Xavier Adibi, WR David Anderson, TE Owen Daniels, QB Matt Leinart (#3 QB), CB Brice McCain, DE Jesse Nading, DT Malcolm Sheppard, G Kasey Studdard

TENNESSEE TITANS
DE Dave Ball, WR Kenny Britt, WR Lavelle Hawkins, S Robert Johnson, DT Jason Jones, T/G Troy Kropog, QB Chris Simms (#3 QB), LB David Thornton

Two lineup changes for both teams today, as Joel Dresseen replaced Owen Daniels at TE and rookie Daryl Sharpton sends Zac Diles to the bench at WOLB for the Texans, while Sen'Derrick Marks starts at DT for Jones and Jacob Ford gets the start for Dave Ball.  For the Texans, DT Shaun Cody was questionable but will play today.  For the Titans, Craig Stevens, Tony Brown, and Kerry Collins will all play despite being questionable.  In a mild surprise, Collins is the backup to Rusty Smith while Simms is the third quarterback.

For more of my thoughts on the game, see the Q&As I did with Texans Tribune and with Texans Chick. Feel free to leave your comments here during today's game or follow my thoughts on Twitter.

Texans Tribune answers Total Titans' questions about the Texans

Written by Tom Gower on .

Thanks to Mike Kerns of Texans Tribune, Bloguin's new Houston Texans site, for joining us in this week's question and answer exchange as the 2010 season heads into crunch time for the Titans.

Total Titans: Arian Foster seems to be having a great year for the Texans, maybe the best rushing performance the Texans have ever had.  Why is he doing so much better than Steve Slaton did, and how much of it is him and how much is the offensive line?

Tennessee Titans - Houston Texans preview

Rusty Smith will get his first NFL start on Sunday.
The Tennessee Titans (5-5) will face the rival Houston Texans (4-6) in an important divisional matchup at Reliant Stadium this Sunday. The winner will stay in hot contention in the tight AFC South race while the loser will be in last place, with a tough uphill climb ahead of them.

This game could be called the Misery Loves Company game. The Titans have lost three games in a row they should have won. Houston is in a four-game losing streak and has lost their last two games on touchdown passes in the final seconds.

The game will also mark the first career start for Titans rookie QB Rusty Smith. Normally, it's tremendously difficult for teams to win in that situation but Smith and the Titans have one thing in their favor which will make the task a little less difficult. The Texans have the worst pass defense in the league and Football Outsiders also ranks them last in total defense.

Also, it will help some that offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger will be on hand to call the plays.
