Titans rally to defeat Eagles 37-19

Led by a sensational, 7-catch, 225 yard, 3-touchdown performance by WR Kenny Britt, the Tennessee Titans overcame a second half deficit in their 37-19 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Benched for the majority of the first half due to his off-the-field behavior, an apparently motivated Kenny Britt became a one-man wrecking crew as he repeatedly dominated helpless Eagle defenders on several big passing plays.

Titans-Eagles inactives, gameday thread

Written by Tom Gower on .

The list of inactives is out for today's game, and includes the following names

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
DT Brodrick Bunkley, LB Keenan Clayton, LB Clay Harbor, RB James Harrison, WR DeSean Jackson, CB Trevard Lindley, OT Jason Peters, QB Michael Vick (#3 QB)

TENNESSEE TITANS
DT Tony Brown, LB Rennie Curran, G Ryan Durand, WR Justin Gage, S Robert Johnson, T/G Troy Kropog, CB Jason McCourty, QB Rusty Smith (#3 QB)

With Vick as the #3 QB, Mike Kafka will be backing up Kevin Kolb.  Jason Avant gets the start at wide receiver in place of Jackson.  King Dunlap should start at left tackle once again. For the Titans, Tony Brown seems to have fallen on the wrong edge of the line, so Amon Gordon returns to the lineup.  Verner gets another start in place of McCourty, and I'd expect to see the Eagles test his deep speed.  Collins gets the start for VY, just as I'd expected he would all week, but VY is healthy enough they're keeping Rusty as QB3.  Damian Williams also gets the start with Britt being punished for his gross stupidity.

The key to today's game in my mind is the key to Kevin Kolb.  There are really two issues here: first, are the Eagles able to protect him, or are the Titans able to force him to make unplanned quick decisions.  Second, he had a good game last week against the Falcons because he was able to throw with anticipation against the Falcons' predictable coverages.  I'd expect the Titans to be harder to read than the Falcons were, and Kolb will have to make throws he wasn't making before last week.  The things to watch for here are, first, how much 3-step passing do the Eagles do, and do they start the game with it or switch to it out of necessity, and second, how much work does RB LeSean McCoy get in the short passing game.

Feel free to leave your comments here during today's game.  I'll probably be chiming in occasionally on twitter, so feel free to follow me there.

Total Titans/Eagles Eye Q&A: Part II

During the first installment of this week's question and answer exchange, Total Titans answered the questions posed by Eagles Eye in preparation for Sunday's Tennessee Titans/Philadelphia Eagles interconference matchup.

In this installment, we have the second and final part of the Q&A, with Thomas Jackson of Eagles Eye answering the inquiries provided by the faithful readers of Total Titans.

Up next...part II of the Q&A exchange.

The Tennessee Titans (4-2) will attempt to remain at the top of the AFC South this Sunday when they host the Philadelphia Eagles, also 4-2, in an interconference meeting.

Kerry Collins will likely quarterback the Titans, following knee and ankle injuries to Vince Young in the Jaguars game this past Monday night. Eagles coach Andy Reid has named Kevin Kolb his starter, ahead of the injured Michael Vick (ribs).

Besides the absence of VY, the Titans may possibly be without the services of WR Kenny Britt, who may face disciplinary action following a Friday morning nightclub incident

Forecast: Partly sunny, with a high near 79° and a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. South wind between 5 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. I'm bringing a Titans poncho, just in case, but it should be good football weather otherwise. I wouldn't mind a little rain and wind to slow down the Iggles' aerial attack.

The Titans' first six games, 2010 vs 2009

What a difference a year makes. One year ago, the Titans were 0-6 and reeling into a bye week, a needed break which was the equivalent of taking a standing eight count. This year, the Titans are 4-2 and tied for the lead in the AFC South.

Three differences between the first six games this year and last year really stand out. First, the defensive line is generating a lot of pressure on the quarterback. Second, and this is partially attributable to the first, the pass coverage is much improved. And thirdly, the quarterback play has been upgraded.

Overview 2009 2010
Record, first six games 0-6 4-2
Points scored, first six games 84 162
Points allowed, first six games 198 98

In preparation for this week's pivotal interconference matchup between the Tennessee Titans and the Philadelphia Eagles, Total Titans exchanged questions and answers with a blog that's focused upon this week's Titan opponent.

The blog that I'm referring to is Bloguin's own Eagles Eye, a great site that's authored by Thomas Jackson.

Up next...part one of this week's Q&A exchange, with Eagles Eye asking the questions and Total Titans supplying the answers.
