The Kenny Britt vs. Justin Gage debate

Thanks to Justin Gage's bum hammy, Kenny Britt has been pressed into duty as one of the Tennessee Titans' starting wide receivers. Last Sunday against the Cowboys, Britt did anything but disappoint, as he snagged 4 grabs for 86 yards and a score.

No disrespect to the veteran Gage but at this point in their careers, Britt brings more to the table and regardless of #12's health, in my opinion, Kenny should keep his starting spot.

Turnovers and penalties have been key to Titans' season

Written by Andrew Strickert on .

Coaches have an old saying that turnovers and penalties will kill you. It's a maxim that held true again in the Titans 34-27 win over the Cowboys on Sunday. Dallas was good enough to move the ball up and down the field but not good enough to overcome their mistakes.

The Cowboys amassed 511 total net yards, while the Titans gained only 321. Dallas had 25 first downs to 17 for Tennessee. The Cowboys controlled the ball for 36:44 while the Titans maintained possession for just 23:16. Dallas had 75 plays from scrimmage, Tennessee only 55.

The difference in the game was that Tennessee didn't commit any turnovers and had only four penalties for 40 yards. Dallas turned the ball over three times and had 12 penalties for 133 yards.

Titans defeat Cowboys in 34-27 thriller

Written by Drexel Perry on .

The Tennessee Titans came up with a huge road victory as they defeated the Dallas Cowboys 34-27.

Chris Johnson took advantage of some additional running space (thanks to some downfield passing) as he ended up with 131 yards on 19 carries. Defensively, despite giving up over 400 passing yards to Tony Romo, the Titans were able to force the Cowboy signal-caller into three costly interceptions while also sacking him on six occasions.

Titans-Cowboys inactives, gameday thread

Written by Tom Gower on .

It's Sunday afternoon, and the inactives for the Titans-Cowboys game are out.

TENNESSEE TITANS:
LB Rennie Curran, WR Justin Gage, G Leroy Harris, S Robert Johnson, DT Sen'Derrick Marks, CB Jason McCourty, G/T Mike Otto, QB Rusty Smith (#3 QB)

Gage and Marks weren't expected to play, so new acquisition Amon Gordon slots into the rotation at defensive tackle, I'd assume.  Kenny Britt gets the start for Justin Gage, and Lavelle Hawkins makes his season debut.  Leroy Harris being out is not a huge surprise; Fernando Velasco starts at left guard for him.  With Jamie Winborn being axed yesterday, Gerald McRath returns to the starting lineup.

DALLAS COWBOYS:
OT Robert Brewster, C Phil Costa, FB Chris Gronkowski, S Michael Hamlin, DE Sean Lissemore, QB Stephen McGee (#3 QB), LB Brandon Williams, OT Sam Young

No unexpected names here.  Gronkowski was questionable and isn't necessary, so he's out, while probables Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, and Kyle Kosier are all playing.

Feel free to leave your comments here during today's game.

Upon further review: Alterraun Verner's first NFL start

Written by Tom Gower on .

As promised, it's a detailed look at Alterraun Verner's first start as an NFL cornerback last Sunday against the Broncos.

The usual disclaimers about judging a player off TV tape apply with unusual force here.  My least favorite things to judge off a television broadcast are (1) safeties, since half the time you can't see them when they line up, and their assignments can vary so much from play to play; (2) offensive linemen and creating holes, since the low sideline angle commonly used on NFL broadcasts does a horrible job of showing what's really open; and (3) cornerbacks, because their assignments vary, though not quite as much as safeties' do, you frequently only see the start of the play and the end of the play they're involved in, and you don't see what they do if the ball isn't actually thrown their way.  That said, on with the show.

Tennessee Titans at Dallas Cowboys preview

Written by Tom Gower on .

The Tennessee Titans (2-2) will look to rebound from last week's home loss to the Broncos as they travel to Texas this week for a visit to the 1-2 Dallas Cowboys in a game that will be shown to most of the country.

Both teams will be looking to continue their winning ways in interconference play this year.  The Titans beat the Giants, 29-10 in their first visit to a new NFC East stadium.  The Cowboys, meanwhile, obtained their only win this season two weeks ago in Reliant Stadium, toppling the Texans 24-7 before enjoying last week's bye.
