Belated thoughts from a trip to Nashville

Written by Tom Gower on .

Last Sunday, I made my annual pilgrimage to LP Field to see the Titans play.  Unlike my previous three times seeing the Titans, in Indianapolis last December, against Houston in Week 2 last year, and the playoff game against the Ratbirds, they came away with that 38-13 victory.  Rather than writing a true recap post, I thought I'd give a list of various things I noticed and have seen about the game:

As promised, Total Titans and fellow Bloguin site Blitzburgh Blog will engage in a questions/answers exchange in preparation for this weekend's highly-anticipated Tennessee Titans/Pittsburgh Steelers showdown.

In the first installment of the Q&A, I answered Blitzburgh Blog's questions concerning my thoughts on the next chapter in the storied rivalry between the two former AFC Central foes.

My answers to their questions...after the jump.

Bud Adams has a shot at the Hall of Fame

Written by Andrew Strickert on .

Would the NFL be the same today if not for Bud Adams? That's a question the Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee will ponder as they consider him for enshrinement in the Class of 2011.

Adams co-founded the American Football League with the late Lamar Hunt, who was enshrined in 1972. The two recruited six more owners (or ownership groups) to compete with the NFL, a battle which ended with a merger ten years later. Buffalo Bills founder Ralph Wilson was another of the original AFL owners (a.k.a. The Foolish Group) and was enshrined last year. The only other early AFL figure in the Hall is Al Davis, who was hired by the Raiders in 1962 as coach/GM and eventually became that franchise's owner.

A strong case can be made that Adams' contributions, while not on the same level as Hunt's, are more significant than those of Wilson or Davis.

In preparation for this week's showdown between the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers, as usual, Total Titans will participate in a questions/answers exchange with a blogger/writer who will provide us with some insight regarding Sunday's Titan opponent.

This week's Q&A will involve fellow scribe Bam Morris from Bloguin's Pittsburgh Steelers site: Blitzburgh Blog.

Have any questions you'd like to have answered by Bam Morris pertaining to the Titans/Steelers battle on Sunday? Feel free to provide your inquiries below.

Titans humiliate same old Raiders 38-13

There will be no 0-6 start this year, folks.

Led by impressive play on both sides of the football, the Tennessee Titans started their 2010 NFL season on a winning note as they whipped the still-mediocre Oakland Raiders 38-13.

On defense, Chuck Cecil's troops accounted for four sacks while causing two Raider turnovers. Offensively, Vince Young was an efficient 13 of 17 for 154 yards and two touchdown passes, while CJ continued his dominance from last year with 142 rushing yards, including a 76-yard scoring scamper.

We're a little more than 24 hours away from the moment we've all been waiting for: the start of the 2010 NFL season for the Tennessee Titans.

Awaiting the Titans in their season-opener are the Oakland Raiders; a team that's banking upon newly acquired signal-caller Jason Campbell to provide the franchise with some stability and improved play at the quarterback position.

Up next...a few thoughts and a prediction regarding this weekend's Titans-Raiders matchup.

Titans-Raiders injury report and impact

Written by Tom Gower on .

The final injury report is out for this Sunday's game against the Raiders, and here's what it looks like:

OAKLAND RAIDERS
OUT: LB Travis Goethel (back), CB Walter McFadden (hamstring), WR Chaz Schillens (knee)
QUESTIONABLE: DT Desmond Bryant (elbow), RB Michael Bush (thumb)

Both Bryant and Bush participated in Friday's practice on a limited basis.  Bush may wear a brace to protect his hand, but even with a brace he may have trouble holding on to the football.  His absence would likely mean a bigger load for Darren McFadden.

TENNESSEE TITANS
OUT: T Mike Otto (knee)
QUESTIONABLE: DT Tony Brown (knee), DE William Hayes (knee), LB Colin Allred (ankle)
PROBABLE: G Leroy Harris (ankle), DE Jacob Ford (back), WR Justin Gage (hand)

Brown and Hayes did not participate in Friday's practice, while Allred, Harris, Ford, and Gage all fully participated in practice.  If you want shorthand as to who's most likely to play, I think that's a pretty good guideline.  Harris was upgraded from questionable to probable while I was writing this post, so I'd expect him to start.  His status may have been the reason Ryan Durand made the team.  If Hayes truly can't go, Jason Babin is listed behind him on the depth chart and may get the start, while Sen'Derrick Marks may start next to Jason Jones at DT for Brown.

Will Witherspoon will play despite missing practice this week after the death of his mother.  All of us here at Total Titans send our condolences to Will on his loss and will be rooting for him to do well on Sunday.
