Titans vs. Panthers preview

Written by Drexel Perry on .

The Tennessee Titans will continue their preseason schedule with a Saturday night matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

The Titans starters, who performed adequately in last week's preseason home-opener against the Cardinals, will have another opportunity to get some reps as they're expected to play roughly two quarters against Carolina.

As the case with most preseason contests, this evening's game will also provide Titans' roster hopefuls with additional chances to make their marks in their plights to earn roster spots.

Here are a few players/battles in particular that I'll be keeping my eyes on as the Titans face the Panthers later tonight.

27 Titans are competing for 15 roster spots

Now that the Tennessee Titans have broken training camp, it's time for me to review what happened and which backups won the battles for roster spots. At least the training camp portion of the roster battles.

After attending every open practice but one this camp, these are how I see the roster battles at this point. We'll see if anything changes in the final two preseason games before the September 4 cutdown to 53 players.

As we know, Gerald McRath will be suspended for the first four games this season and will not be on the regular 53-man roster. Consider him as an ineligible 54th man for four weeks. The other 79 players now on the active roster will compete for the 53 regular roster positions.

Titans 53-man roster prediction: halfway through preseason

Halfway through training camp, I thought it was time to revisit the roster prediction I made at the start of training camp, and take a look at how which players have seen their stock rise and fall of late, at least in my eyes.

Titans 24 Cardinals 10: Hits and Misses

Written by Drexel Perry on .

Buoyed by a solid effort courtesy of the first-teamers, the Tennessee Titans defeated the Arizona Cardinals 24-10 in their nationally televised home preseason opener.

Vince Young played well, completing 9 of his 13 passing attempts for 128 yards while leading the team on a couple of impressive drives. Since it's the preseason, Chris Johnson's touches were limited (six rushing attempts) but per the norm, CJ's abilities were on full display via his impressive 8-yard TD run.

Up next...a few additional thoughts/observations regarding the stellar and not-so-stellar performances by the Titans last night.

Titans-Cardinals inactives, game thread

Written by Tom Gower on .

The list of official inactives is out for the Titans, and includes the names you'd expect:

DT Tony Brown
CB Cortland Finnegan
DE Jacob Ford
WR Justin Gage
DE William Hayes
LB David Thornton

Kenny Britt gets the start at wideout for Justin Gage, while Dave Ball starts for Ford and Alterraun Verner gets the starting spot at corner that Ryan Mouton had last week.

Feel free to leave your comments here during tonight's game.  I'll mostly be commenting on my Twitter page, so feel free to follow along there.

Titans training camp, Week Three recap

Written by Andrew Strickert on .

The Tennessee Titans have now completed three weeks of training camp and it's been another typical camp. Hot, over 90° every day the past month. In this recap, I'll focus on the practices of last week and offer some thoughts on how the roster is shaping up from the observations I've made.

Video: two plays against the Seahawks

I thought I'd try a new gimmick: video breakdowns of plays.  Detailed visual breakdowns of plays is something I've wanted to do for a couple years, but have never gotten around to doing.  Consider these that debut, and more as proof of concept than as something I'll do going forward.
