Tennessee Titans - San Diego Chargers preview

Written by Andrew Strickert on .

The AFC South-leading Tennessee Titans (doesn't that sound good?) will look to continue their winning ways at San Diego this Sunday. They'll attempt to do something no other Titans team has done -- defeat the Chargers.

There have been some games that were pretty close and that the Titans could have and should have won. Then there have been some which were in the butt-kicking category. The last meeting between these teams, in December, fell into the latter category.

It's time to correct that.

Justice Is Coming answers Total Titans' questions about the Chargers

Written by Tom Gower on .

Thanks to Ross Warner of the Chargers blog Justice Is Coming for participating again in a Q&A session.  Thanks to dedkriti and TREN507 for suggesting questions, which I incorporated into my questions for Ross. (Sorry, Andrew, I'd already sent him the email by the time you commented.) Questions and answers follow beyond the jump.

Britt adds a new dimension to the Titans' offense

When you think of the offensive players on the Titans' great teams of 1999-2003, there wasn't a lot of speed. Eddie George was a grinder, a workhorse who ran between the tackles at 4.1, 3.7 and then 3.0 yards per attempt. Top receiver Derrick Mason was a possession guy, not a deep threat.

They're not at all like the players who man those positions for the Titans today. Chris Johnson, and now Kenny Britt, are guys who can make a big play and score any time they touch the ball.

The emergence of Britt will hopefully open things up for CJ. Defenses can no longer key solely on stopping just one man. Keep eight or nine men in the box and gamble with single coverage on Britt? Or double Britt and gamble on containing CJ?

Decisions, decisions, what's a defensive coordinator to do?

Titans-Chargers Q&A exchange

Written by Tom Gower on .

As we did before last December's contest against the Chargers, we'll be doing a Q&A this week with Ross Warner of the Chargers blog Justice Is Coming.  If you have anything you want me to ask Ross, post it in the comments section, and I'll include it in the Q&A.

The Alterraun Verner vs. Jason McCourty debate

A couple of weeks ago, I penned a piece that endorsed Kenny Britt keeping one of the starting WR spots regardless of whether or not veteran incumbent Justin Gage was healthy.

Kenny justified that opinion and then some with his remarkable performance last weekend against Philadelphia.

This week, we'll examine the conundrum that Jeff Fisher will soon be faced with at one of the starting CB positions.

Jason McCourty is getting closer to returning to the playing field but with rookie Alterraun Verner making big play after big play on a seemingly weekly basis, it's going to be tough to just hand McCourty back his starting job.

Field position and the Titans' offensive success

Written by Tom Gower on .

One of the things I wrote about during the offseason when I looked how the Titans' offense changed when VY became the starting quarterback was the importance of field position.  Given the Titans' success at scoring points despite not putting up many yards of offense, I thought it would be a good idea to update those numbers for this year thus far and see how they compared.

Chart? Chart.

Titans rally to defeat Eagles 37-19

Led by a sensational, 7-catch, 225 yard, 3-touchdown performance by WR Kenny Britt, the Tennessee Titans overcame a second half deficit in their 37-19 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Benched for the majority of the first half due to his off-the-field behavior, an apparently motivated Kenny Britt became a one-man wrecking crew as he repeatedly dominated helpless Eagle defenders on several big passing plays.
