Titans-Jaguars inactives, liveblog

Written by Tom Gower on .

The inactives list is out for tonight's Titans-Jaguars game, and includes the following names:

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
FB Brock Bolen, DT Landon Cohen, CB Derek Cox, LB Jacob Cutera, OL Kevin Haslam, CB Chevis Jackson, DE Aaron Morgan, DL C.J. Mosley

TENNESSEE TITANS
LB Rennie Curran, G Ryan Durand, WR Justin Gage, DT Amon Gordon, S Robert Johnson, T/G Troy Kropog, CB Jason McCourty, QB Rusty Smith (#3 QB)

For the Titans, SenDerrick Marks is healthy and returns to the lineup, so Gordon slots back to the bench.  Leroy Harris returns after missing last week's contest, and Eugene Amano is active and will start despite Saturday's injury.  Kenny Britt also gets another start in place of Justin Gage.  For the Jaguars, Gerald Alexander gets the start at free safety for Sean Considine, while Courtney Greene starts at strong safety in place of the traded Anthony Smith.  David Jones starts at corner in place of Derek Cox.

Are the Titans really lying in the weeds?

Written by Tom Gower on .

Last week, blogfriend Chase Stuart of the invaluable Pro-Football-Reference wrote a post pointing out the Titans ranked surprisingly high in P-F-R's Simple Rating System and wondered if the Titans could be lurking in the weeds as one of the NFL's elite teams.  I'm not a huge fan of Simple Rating System, which is a margin of victory-based ranking, but since Chase posed the question and it's occasionally useful to take a macro-level view of where a team stands, I'll say what I have to say.

Just as a fair warning, this is relatively long and more stat-heavy, especially advanced stat-heavy, than most of my posts here.

A share of AFC South supremacy will be on the line when the Tennessee Titans (3-2) face the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-2) in tomorrow's Monday Night showdown.

Through the years, both teams have been mirror-images of themselves, following the lead of their tough-minded head coaches (Jeff Fisher, Jack Del Rio) as they emphasize a physical brand of football usually centered upon a successful running attack.

Up next...a preview and a prediction for the latest installment of the Titans/Jaguars bitter rivalry.

Teal Power: Why haven't the Titans been able to find a good passing attack behind Vince Young and Kerry Collins?
